The name's Slo-Poke (S.P.) my biological name is Robert Spruill. I started writing music at the age of 13 but didn't become serious about it until my junior year in high school. I was featured on a compilation which gave me local notoriety. Writing for me was the easiest way to express how I felt about whatever was going on in my life at that time. It’s what I like to call "Self Therapy”. I have won numerous talent shows as well as emcee battles while perfecting my craft throughout the years. As we all know trends tend to come and go in this culture we call hip-hop but I have managed to stay a float by being dedicated and true to myself in what I represent as an artist.
I have opened up for veteran platinum selling artists such as Scarface, Bone Thugs and Harmony, The Roots, Digital Underground, and The Luniz. As for the newer faces I have shared the stage with Young Buck, Juelz Santana, and Mike Jones. My first album titled "Better Late Than Never" was released in the summer of 2004. It was not just an introduction of me as an artist but it allowed listener's a chance to get to know me more on a personal level. The song "Family Matter's" gives you an in depth look at my childhood, and my song “Last Word's” spoke to those I hold close to me; as if it was for the last time.
With no distribution I still managed to sell 2,000 units independently which caused a big enough buzz for me to catch the eyes of R.Lucien Entertainment and become the flagship artist of the company. With me residing in Washington State and R.Lucien Entertainment based out of San Diego, California it made sense for me to relocate and establish a new fan base while building a bond with my new team. I moved to California in the summer of 2006, I currently have 5 solo projects under my belt (1 Album and 4 Mixtapes) “How I Woulda Said It Vol. 1-3), and The Northwest Spokesman, and my first album released is titled “Better Late Than Never”.
My sophomore album “The Appreciation of...My past, My Present, My Future”, which is slated for a February release has a variation of topics showing my diversity as an artist. What makes me stand out as an emcee is not just having the drive; it's the hunger you hear when you listen to my music. I have a great supporting cast this time around and high expectations. This new album gives you a brief background on what I've been thru or seen as an artist, to where I'm headed now. One thing I learned along time ago is you can't deny the "Truth”. I’ve sacrificed my whole life to succeed at what I do best; leaving no stones unturned. It’s my time! I earned it.
